National Library of Scotland and the Scottish Screen Archive have made available a great video of the 9th HLI marching through the streets of Helensburgh. The footage is from 1935.

I hope that some one can help.

My Grand father was CSM Reginald Endacott DCM who won his DCM at Jebel Shiba Massawa. I would like some more information about him and some pictures if possible.

I also note that in 1944 during the Normandy campaign there was a RSM Endicott on HQ strength. Was this my grand father ?

Hi,

I'm researching Hamish Watt Torrance (aka James or John Watt Torrance) he was with the 6th Battalion HLI and Commisioned as a 2nd Lt on the 20th of March 1938. Later went to SOE and had dealings with Norway and North Africa while attached to SOE. He was awarded an MBE for service in Norway, an MC for service with SOE and post was was a Major with the Territorial Army serving in  a Para unit. He died in 1966 aged just 50.

He came from a long line of family involvement with the services, there is a Donald Watt Torrance also HLI and died in service in 1949 aged 24.

My main interest is Hamish....so, if anyone has any knowledge of the man or can point me in the right direction, please do get in contact.    This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Many thanks.

Regards,

Dave
