There will be a Service in Glasgow Cathedral to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Loos at 1100hrs on Sunday 27 September 2015.
Loos, styled as “the Big Push”, was the largest and bloodiest battle of 1915 . It began on 25 September and by the end of the battle on 13 October, there were some 50,000 casualties on the Allied side. All of our antecedent regiments took part in the battle; and in particular, the three “Pals” battalions of the HLI recruited in Glasgow acquitted themselves with distinction.
The Reverend Lawrence Whitley, the Minster, is keen that as many serving soldiers, reserves, cadets and veterans as possible will attend. The service will start at 1100hrs and those attending are requested to be seated by 1045hrs.
