My father, Stan Rumble, was a Canloan officer who served with the HLI, and was wounded in action in Normandy in June 1944.

He passed away some years ago.

I am interested in learning any information about his military service, and his career with the HLI.

Thanks very much.

I'm trying to find any information regarding a possible relative who served with the HLI during the Great War. I came across an entry on the CWGC website. As our surname is very uncommon I am wondering if we could be related.

His name is J (John?) Pitbladdo. service no; 43003.

He died on the 18th November 1916 during the assualt on Frankfurt Trench, Beaumont-Hamel, on the Somme and is buried in the Frankfurt Trench Military Cemetery Grave No; C.24. He doesn't appear to be on the "Soldiers Died in the Great War" database.

Any information or links to further searches would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi i was wondering if any of the members or visitors remember serving with my grandad. He would have served from 1956-1958. He never chatted much about his service so i no very little about his earlier years. Any info would be much appreciated. I've been trying to trace any photographic information on William Gibson 7036, born in Melrose, who served 20 years in the HLI from the South African Campaign 1899 - 1902, then Army Reserve from 1906 to 1914, serving throughout WW1, finishing as a WO 2, being demobbed in 1920. I have a copy of some of his service records and his WW1 medal index card (but that doesn't tell me much other than that he entered into the western front theatre on 29/11/14.)  He joined up at age 18 in 1899 in Hamilton and settled in Hawick as a baker from 1920.
